Here's a little video of the opening of the "Family Vacation" show this past Friday at the Benjamin Benjamin Gallery in Hood River. Myah and Scott helped throw a great opening. There was live music, open fire for making s'mores and great art. The displays that were created showed off the trailers great.
The show will be up till Oct. 31st so if you're in the area be sure to stop in and see the new work.
I created this one upon the request of my friends at Crow Valley Pottery. I would have never thought to make a pink travel trailer on my own. In fact I originally thought it wouldn't look so good, but when it came out of the kiln. It was instantly my new favorite.
I also create mini trailers. I made these to be part of a cone box show.
It's a ceramics tradition to make small scale work that could fit into a cone box. Cone boxes are what witness cones come in. They tell you when your kiln has reached temperature by bending over in the heat.
This is one of the second generation of ceramic trailers I created. I'm currently getting ready for Ceramic Showcase in Portland. I'll have more lanterns like this one plus mugs, bowls, and tiles with the camper theme. Come see me at the group booth April 24-26th at the Oregon Convention Center.
“I chose clay because I was used to working with shape and balance from my years doing hair.” Maybe that’s why ceramics came so easy to me. “I also love playing with color and texture, and that’s another reason I find this medium so appealing.”
